Remove the Background from an Image
A quick cut-out for product shots, portraits and pets: the subject is kept and the background is made transparent, or replaced with white or another colour. If it picks the wrong thing, click the subject you want.
Nothing is uploaded. An AI model runs in your own browser, so your photos never leave your device. No signup, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos.
What an automatic cut-out cannot do well
Hair, fur, glass, lace, fine detail and subjects that blend into the background come out soft or with bits missing, and shadows are removed with the background. For product listings and anything printed, our editors cut out by hand from $0.25 (≈ £0.19 · €0.22) per image.

Add a photo and the cut-out appears here on a see-through background.
The first cut-out downloads the AI model (about 17.7 MB) from this site, once. It then runs on your device.

JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC. Several at once is fine; they are cut out one at a time.
How it works
- The first time you start, your browser downloads an AI segmentation model, about 17.7 MB, from this site. Nothing is sent the other way.
- The model looks at a smaller copy of your photo and works out which pixels belong to the subject at the centre, or at the spot you click.
- That outline is scaled back up to the full size of your photo with a slightly softened edge, and everything outside it is made transparent or filled with your colour.
The model is MagicTouch from Google’s open-source MediaPipe project. It runs entirely on your device, so it works on confidential product shots and client photos.
When a quick cut-out is enough, and when it is not
Enough for
- Objects with clear edges on a plain background: shoes, bags, boxes, bottles, furniture.
- Social posts, slides, mock-ups and drafts, where a slightly soft edge goes unnoticed.
- Trying out a layout or a background colour before sending a set off for editing.
Worth a professional edit
- Hair, fur, veils, lace and anything see-through, such as glassware: the soft, partly transparent edge is where automatic tools fail.
- Product catalogues and Amazon main images, where every edge has to be clean and the set has to match. See the Amazon image requirements; an Amazon-ready main image starts at $0.50 (≈ £0.38 · €0.44).
- Natural or drop shadows, reflections, and a cut-out that has to hold up in print.
- A path a designer can edit later: that is a clipping path, drawn by hand.
Tips for a cleaner cut-out
- A subject that stands out from the background, in colour or brightness, gives the cleanest edge.
- Put the subject near the centre, or click its middle in the preview: the model starts from that point.
- If a handle, a foot or a second item is missing, tick “Add the clicked area” and click the missing part.
- Keep PNG or WebP for anything you will place on another background; choose JPG only for the final white-background file.

Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and the cut-out is made on your device. Your photos are never sent to Pinnacle Edits or to anyone else.
Why is there a download the first time?
Removing a background on your device needs the AI model on your device. It is about 17.7 MB, comes from this site, and is downloaded once: later photos, and later visits while your browser keeps it cached, start straight away.
How good is the cut-out on hair and fur?
Soft. Strands of hair, fur, veils and glass are partly transparent, and an automatic model either cuts them off or leaves some background in. That is fine on a social post, not on a product page or a print. Those edges are what our hand-made background removal is for.
Which format keeps the transparent background?
PNG and WebP keep it. JPG cannot be transparent, so a JPG is saved on white or on the colour you choose, which is what marketplaces usually want for a main image.
Can I do several photos at once?
Yes. Add several and they are cut out one after another, then download them one by one or together as a ZIP. Check each one in the preview: the model starts from the centre of every photo.
Is it really free?
Yes: no signup, no watermark on the result and no limit on the number of photos. It is free because it runs on your device and costs us nothing per photo.
