Why It Is Its Own Craft

Jewellery Punishes Generic Retouching

Most product retouching is subtractive — remove the dust, clean the background, ship it. Jewellery does not work that way. A polished surface is a mirror, so every reflection in the shot is information about the room it was photographed in, and half of it has to go while the other half has to stay or the metal reads as flat grey plastic.

Stones are harder still. Push clarity too far and a diamond looks computer-generated; push colour and you have misrepresented the product, which is a returns problem and, for graded stones, a compliance one. The line between "brought to life" and "not what I ordered" is narrow, and it is a judgement call an automated filter cannot make.

Then there is scale. A macro lens wide open holds perhaps a few millimetres of a ring in focus, so a genuinely sharp piece usually means a focus-stacked composite of several frames, aligned and blended by hand. Our editors do this work daily, and your account keeps the same ones — so the fiftieth ring in a catalogue matches the first.

What We Do

Jewellery Retouching Services

Metal Cleanup & Polishing

Scratches, dents, dust and fingerprints removed from gold, silver and platinum, with the metal returned to a clean, even polish.

Gemstone Enhancement

Facet definition, clarity and sparkle brought up without misrepresenting the stone — the cut stays the cut, the colour stays true.

True Metal Colour

Yellow gold, rose gold, white gold and silver corrected to their real tone, so a listing photo matches what arrives in the box.

Reflections & Shadows

Natural reflections rebuilt on polished surfaces, plus mirror reflections and contact shadows that sit the piece on the surface.

Background Removal

Pure white RGB 255,255,255 for marketplace compliance, or transparent PNG and clipping paths for your own layouts.

Focus Stacking & Composites

Multiple exposures merged so the whole piece is sharp front to back — the shot most jewellery macro work cannot get in camera.

Scope

Every Piece in the Catalogue

  • Rings and engagement settings
  • Necklaces, pendants and chains
  • Earrings and studs
  • Bracelets, bangles and watches
  • Loose gemstones and diamonds
  • Bridal and heritage sets
  • On-model shots — hand, ear, neck
  • Silver, costume and fashion pieces

On-model shots need skin and metal handled together — that overlaps with our portrait and product retouching, and both run on the same account.

Common Questions

Jewellery editing questions

How much does jewellery photo editing cost?

Marketplace-ready work — background removal, colour correction, dust and fingerprint cleanup, shadows — runs $0.50 to $3.00 per image. High-end and editorial retouching, with facet-level stone work and reflection rebuilds, runs $2.00 to $8.00. Catalogue volume is quoted, and a dedicated editor starts at $600 per month.

Do you do jewelry retouching for US clients?

Yes. Jewelry retouching is the same service under the American spelling, and the United States is our largest market. We work across US time zones — send at the end of your day and the edits are back the next morning.

Can you make gemstones look better without misrepresenting them?

That is the line we work to. We lift clarity, facet definition and sparkle that the camera lost, but we do not change a stone's colour, cut or apparent size. If a piece needs more than that to sell, the answer is a reshoot, not retouching — and we will tell you so.

Do you handle focus stacking for macro jewellery shots?

Yes. Send the full bracket of exposures and we align and blend them into one frame that is sharp front to back. If you only have a single frame, we will tell you what is recoverable before you commit to the batch.

Can you match Amazon and marketplace background requirements?

Yes — pure white RGB 255,255,255 backgrounds at the framing and resolution Amazon requires, plus transparent PNGs and clipping paths for your own site. See our Amazon product image requirements guide for the full checklist.

Will the whole catalogue look consistent?

Your account keeps the same editor or editing team, working to one written spec, so piece fifty matches piece one. That consistency is the main reason jewellers move off marketplaces and freelancers as their catalogue grows.

How fast is turnaround on a jewellery batch?

Most orders are delivered within 24 to 48 hours, including large batches, because the work is split across a team. Rush turnaround is available on request.

Can I test the quality before sending a full catalogue?

Yes. Send one representative piece — ideally your most difficult one — and we will edit it free, with no card required. Judge the metal and the stones before you commit to anything.
