   Step 1: Send us the files

   Upload a folder through the order system, or share a Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer link. RAW files are fine. Most studios send a whole shoot at once.

2. 02

   Step 2: Describe the look you want

   Send three or four already-edited images as reference, or write a short brief. Your team builds a style guide from it and reuses it on every later order.

3. 03

   Step 3: A named team does the work

   Two or three editors are assigned to your account. The same people handle your work each time, which is what keeps a batch of 800 images looking consistent.

4. 04

   Step 4: Review and request changes

   Files come back within 24 hours for most photo services. Revisions are free and unlimited, so flag anything that is off and it comes back corrected.

Culling

Picking the keepers out of a shoot before any editing happens. A wedding might come in at 3,000 frames and go out at 600.

HDR blending

Combining several exposures of the same room into one frame so the window view and the shadowed corner are both visible. Standard practice in property photography.

Clipping path

A hand-drawn vector outline that separates a product from its background. Cleaner edges than an automatic selection, which is why catalogue work still uses it.

Frequency separation

A retouching technique that treats skin tone and skin texture as separate layers, so blemishes can go without the skin turning plastic.

Ghost mannequin

Compositing the inside of a garment into a shot so the clothing keeps its shape with no mannequin visible.

Colour grading

Setting the overall colour mood of a video after the technical correction is done. Grading is the creative pass; correction is the neutral one.
