What Flambient Is
Flash for Colour, Ambient for Mood
Flambient is short for flash plus ambient. The photographer shoots each room twice from the same tripod position: once with the room’s own light, and once with a flash bounced off the ceiling or a wall. The ambient frame looks natural but carries colour casts from bulbs and windows. The flash frame has clean colour but looks flat.
Blending the two keeps the depth of the ambient frame and the true colour of the flash frame. Done well, the result looks like the room on a good day, not like a flash photo. Done badly, it leaves halos around furniture and grey patches on walls, which is why the blending is the slow part.
That blending is what we do. You shoot; our editors blend every image by hand, so you can get to the next listing instead of spending the evening in Photoshop.

Which One Should You Shoot?
HDR
Three to seven bracketed exposures, no flash. Quicker on site and easier to shoot, but colour casts from bulbs and windows stay in the blend. HDR Basic is $0.60 per image and the Listing Edit $0.90.
Flambient
An ambient frame and one or more flash frames. More work on site, but cleaner whites, truer colour and crisper detail, which suits higher-end listings and architectural work. $1.20 per image.

Flash and Ambient Blending
The ambient frame keeps the mood and the light from the lamps; the flash frame gives clean whites and true colour. We blend the two by hand with layer masks.
Window Pulls
Blown-out windows are masked in from your window exposure, so the view outside is visible and the frames stay sharp.
Colour-Cast-Free Walls
Yellow from tungsten bulbs and green from grass outside are removed, so white walls and ceilings read as white.
Sky Replacement
Grey or blown skies replaced with a clear blue one, on exteriors and through the windows of interiors.
Straight Verticals
Perspective and lens correction, so walls stand straight and door frames do not lean.
TV Screens and Fireplaces
A picture on the blank TV and a fire in the empty fireplace, included in the price.
Optional add-ons: removing the photographer or tripod from reflections, and removing wires and cords.

What is flambient photography?
Flambient is a real estate shooting method: an ambient frame and a flash frame are taken from the same position and blended in editing. The ambient frame gives natural light and depth, the flash frame gives clean whites and true colour.
How much does flambient editing cost?
$1.20 per finished image, including window pulls, colour-cast removal, sky replacement, perspective correction, and a TV picture and fireplace fire. Orders of 500+ images a month get 10% off, 1,000+ get 15% off.
Flambient vs HDR: which is better?
Flambient gives cleaner colour and crisper detail, because the flash frame has none of the colour casts that HDR brackets carry. HDR is quicker to shoot and cheaper to edit. Many photographers shoot HDR for everyday listings and flambient for higher-end homes.
How many frames do I need per image?
At least one ambient frame and one flash frame per composition, shot from a tripod. Extra flash frames for dark corners and a separate window exposure give a better result. The price is per finished image, not per frame.
How long does flambient editing take?
24 to 48 hours as standard. 12-hour rush is +$0.25 and 6-hour rush +$0.50 per image.
Can you match my editing style?
Yes. Send one or two finished images you like with your first order, and we will keep the same brightness, white balance and contrast on every listing.
What file formats do you deliver?
JPEG, TIFF or PSD, at the size you need for MLS, portals or print.
Do you use AI to blend the images?
No. Every flambient image is blended by an editor by hand with layer masks, and your photos are never used to train AI.
